Read what these lengths involve, day by day: 7-day freeride ski or 10-day freeride ski.
A powder package is for someone who can already ski and wants the week organised so that nothing gets between them and the snow.
Seven nights in Gulmarg, accommodation and meals, airport transfers, equipment, lift access, and guided days on ungroomed terrain with a certified guide. Booked as one thing, from one operator, with one person accountable for it.
If you have never skied, you want Beginner Ski Packages. If you want maximum vertical on unmanaged terrain beyond the resort, and you're comfortable with avalanche equipment, you want Backcountry Ski Packages. This page is the middle and the most-booked: strong recreational skiers who want good snow, good days and no logistics.
Who this package is for
You should be: a confident skier or rider on ungroomed snow, or close to it. You do not need to be an expert, and you do not need previous off-piste experience, but you should be able to make controlled turns on a variable surface.
Fitness: enough for five to six hours on the hill, several days running, at altitude.
Not for: first-timers, or skiers still working on parallel turns. That's not a judgement, it's a mismatch, a powder package given to someone who can't yet ski ungroomed snow is a long, expensive, frightening week. Beginner packages exist and are excellent, and Advanced Ski Lessons are the bridge between the two.
If you're unsure, call. We would rather move you to the right package before you pay than deliver the wrong one well.
What a day looks like
Not the terrain, the shape of the day, which is what you're buying.
08:30, meet, briefing, the plan and its alternatives, turnaround time stated 08:45, beacon check, every transceiver, every day, four minutes, never skipped 09:00, first run, chosen to inform the rest of the day 10:00–13:00, the main skiing 13:00, food and reassessment; the afternoon plan gets confirmed or shortened here 13:30–15:30, afternoon, deliberately shorter than the morning 15:30, the exit, started with time in hand Evening, debrief, and tomorrow's outline
The full reasoning behind why days are structured this way is on the Ski Guides page.
Accommodation options
What to consider when choosing:
Distance to the gondola. Fifteen minutes' walk in ski boots at -10°C, twice a day, for a week, is not nothing.
Heating reliability. Varies by property. Ask, and we'll answer honestly.
Hot water, for the same reason. After six hours on the hill this matters more than the room.
Dinner quality. You will eat every dinner where you sleep. Over seven nights it becomes a large part of how the trip feels.
Getting a quote
We build this package around your group rather than selling a fixed shelf version, so the quote comes after a short conversation rather than off a page.
What we need from you: your dates or date window, how many of you, an honest description of ability across the group, how many days you want guided, and whether you'd like us to suggest accommodation or you have a preference.
Ability is the one that matters most. "Three of us have skied off-piste for years, one is strong on-piste and has never left it" is a useful sentence and shapes the whole week. "We're all decent skiers" produces a plan that has to be rebuilt on day one.
What shapes the package:
Accommodation tier, the widest variable and the easiest to adjust in either direction. Same skiing, different bed.
Group size, guiding works per group rather than per head, so four people sharing a guide is a materially different arrangement from two. If you're a pair, finding two more people is the single most effective change you can make to this trip, and it changes nothing about the quality of the days.
Number of guided days, not every day of a seven-night trip needs a guide. Five guided days with two independent or rest days is a common and sensible shape.
Season, mid-January to late February is peak across the whole market. December, early January and March are quieter.
Heli days, arranged separately from the rest of the structure.

Equipment
Included: skis or snowboard, boots, poles, helmet, and transceiver, shovel and probe on guided days.
Bring your own if: you have boots that fit (fit beats everything else in ski equipment), or a transceiver you have personally practised with. Familiarity with your own beacon is worth more than the newest issued unit.
Available to rent separately: ABS airbag packs, from our ski shop.
Don't bring: skis, unless you're particular about them. Rental is included.
Booking a package versus arranging it yourself
A fair question and worth answering honestly, because for some people the answer is that they shouldn't book a package.
Arranging it yourself means booking flights, booking a hotel directly, arranging an airport transfer, renting equipment on arrival, buying lift passes daily, and hiring a guide day by day. All of it is possible and people do it.
What you save: some margin, and you keep full flexibility over where you stay.
What it costs you: the transfer is the first problem, arranging a car from Srinagar in advance, in winter, timed to a delayed flight, from abroad, is harder than it sounds and is where most independent trips go wrong on day one. Equipment rental on arrival means whatever is left rather than what fits. Guide availability in peak season is not something to leave until you land; the good days in mid-February are booked. And when something changes, a road closure, a lift on wind hold, a change of plan, you are the person solving it.
Where a package genuinely wins: peak-season guide availability, transfers that adjust to your actual flight, equipment reserved in your size, and one number to call when something goes wrong.
Where it genuinely doesn't: if you're already in Kashmir, if you're staying with friends, if you want to ski only two of seven days, or if you have a strong preference for accommodation we don't work with. In any of those cases, book guiding on its own and arrange the rest yourself. We'd rather sell you three guided days you need than a package you don't.
Travelling with a non-skiing partner
More common than you'd expect and easily accommodated, and almost no Gulmarg operator addresses it.
The skier books the package; the non-skier books accommodation, meals and transfers without the skiing components.
Gulmarg is a reasonable place to be a non-skier for a week, gondola rides for the view, the village, the surrounding walks, but be realistic: it is a small mountain village in winter, options are limited, and a non-skier who needs a full programme will be happier somewhere else. Somebody who wants a quiet week with books and a good view will be very happy.
A middle option worth considering: a couple of beginner lessons for the non-skier while the skier is out. It converts more partners into skiers than anything else we've seen. See Ski Lessons.
Food and dietary requirements
Breakfast and dinner are included and eaten at your accommodation. Lunch is bought on the mountain.
Tell us your dietary requirements at booking, not on arrival. Vegetarian is straightforward and standard. Vegan, gluten-free, allergies and specific medical diets are all manageable with notice and considerably harder to arrange on the day. Gulmarg is not a place with a wide choice of restaurants to fall back on, so notice matters more here than it would in a European resort.
Lunch on the mountain is limited in choice and arranged day to day. Many people carry something.
Water. Drink far more than you think you need. Altitude and dry cold air dehydrate you faster than the temperature suggests, and a meaningful share of day-three fatigue is dehydration rather than exertion.
Booking
Deposit. A deposit confirms your dates.
What is not refundable, stated honestly: weather, snow conditions, or a guide's decision to ski different terrain than you hoped. Those are the mountain. What happens instead is that the day changes, different aspect, different elevation, trees rather than alpine. That is the service, and the reasoning is set out on Our Guides.
Lift closures. Phase 2 goes on wind hold regularly. It is not a lost day, and your guide has a plan for it.
When to book for
Mid-January to late February is peak for both snow and demand. Book early.
December, early January and March are easier to book, often cheaper, and can produce excellent weeks.
Seven nights minimum. Four-night trips lose two days to travel and gamble the rest on a single weather window.
For the snow reasoning behind all of this, see Powder Skiing in Gulmarg.
Add-ons
Additional guided days, for trips longer than the standard week, or to add a guide to a day you'd planned to ski independently.
Heli-skiing, the highest-value addition available.
Ski touring days, swap a lift-served day for a skin-access one. Requires touring equipment. See Ski Touring.
Airbag pack rental, available from our ski shop.
Advanced lessons, a session with an instructor rather than a guide, for skiers who want to improve technique rather than just ski terrain. See Advanced Ski Lessons. Genuinely worth considering on the first two days of a powder week.
Extra nights, before or after the standard week.
Insurance, in detail
Repeated here rather than only on the hub, because this is the package where it bites.
Standard travel policies frequently exclude off-piste skiing outside resort boundaries, and many exclude it entirely unless you are with a qualified guide. Essentially all the skiing on this package is outside any resort boundary as a European insurer would define one.
Check for: the off-piste definition and whether it is boundary-dependent; whether a qualified guide is required for cover; helicopter evacuation as a specific line item, and its cap; any altitude ceiling; repatriation; and any exclusion applying to Jammu & Kashmir.
Get ambiguity resolved in writing before you buy, and bring the policy details with you. Full detail on Off-Piste Skiing.
If something goes wrong
The logistics of it, which is a package question. The mountain side is on Avalanche Safety.
Illness or injury during the trip.
Someone in the group can't ski a day. Accommodation, meals and transfers continue.
You need to leave early.
Flight delays or a road closure on arrival. We reschedule the transfer and the skiing plan absorbs it. Delays getting in are far less costly than delays getting out, which is why the return buffer exists.
A lost or damaged rental item.
Who to call. One number, ours, throughout the trip, +91-9596300570. That is a real advantage of a package over a self-assembled trip, where a problem at 6am is your problem to solve in a language you may not speak.
